Frequently asked Questions about Frozen Lemonade.

What is Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade?

Frosted lemonade is a popular cold beverage that is made with a blend of lemonade, ice, and vanilla ice cream. It is especially a popular choice during warm weather as a refreshing way to cool down .

The original frosted lemonade is both sweet and tart. The tartness comes from the lemon flavoring. Vanilla ice cream adds a sweet balance to tartness of the lemon. Ice is also added to help keep the ingredients cold.

What is the difference between 'Frosted Lemonade' and 'Frozen Lemonade'?

The original recipe is 'frosted' rather than 'frozen'. While this recipe is 'frozen' is can be adjusted to be 'frosted'.

Usually, frosted lemonade is made with lemonade, ice cream, and ice, while frozen lemonade is made with lemonade and ice.

This difference in ingredients is what gives a frosted lemonade a creamier and thicker texture. Because frosted lemonade does not always have a dairy ingredient such as ice cream, to balance out the lemon flavoring, it may have a slightly sweeter flavor than frozen lemonade.

Here are some tips for making copycat Chick-fil-A Frozen Lemonade.

For best results, use freshly squeezed lemon rather than store bought lemon juice. Sometimes store bought lemon juice can contain other ingredients such as sugar.

More helpful tips for you.

  1. When I make this recipe I like to adjust the thickness of this frozen lemonade. You can do so by adding more or less ice as desired.
  2. Since first posting this recipe, there have been some new options available in sugar free drink mixes. Why not try a sugar free pink lemonade, sugar free tea and lemonade, or even a sugar free berry lemonade instead of the standard sugar free lemonade drink mix?
  3. You didn't hear this from me but, adding a bit of vodka to this can make some folks happy. 🙂
  4. I have not tried this but, if you cannot find vegan ice cream to make this a vegan frozen lemonade you can try using a vegan yogurt instead. However, I would suggest blending it with a bit of coconut cream.

How to store frozen lemonade.

This frosted beverage is best when it is served just after making it. While you could refrigerate it for an hour or two before enjoying it, the texture will not be the same.

Copycat Chick Fil A Frosted Lemonade Recipe Made with No Added Sugar.

Since this is a 'copycat' recipe, we are going to use some 'cheats' in this recipe. You are welcome to adjust the ingredients as desired as well.

To make this recipe you will need powdered sugar free lemonade mix.

As we are not adding sugar to this recipe, we will be adding a sugar free lemonade mix to balance out the flavors. Also, like many frosted lemonade recipes, you will need sugar free vanilla ice cream. If you cannot find a vanilla sugar free ice cream (or vanilla frozen yogurt), you can do what I do. I freeze my low fat Greek Yogurt for two hours before I make this recipe.

The ingredients needed to make Sugar Free Copycat Chick-fil-A Frozen Lemonade.

  • Lemon Juice- Fresh is best. If you use bottled, be sure to check the added sugar content of it.
  • Sugar Free Lemonade Mix- I use an "on the go" single serving packet for a single serving. If you use a lemonade that has already been made, simply use one cup of the lemonade and omit the added water listed below.
  • Water- added for consistency.
  • Sugar Free Vanilla Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt- If you cannot find a vanilla sugar free ice cream (or vanilla frozen yogurt), you can do what I do. I freeze my low fat Greek Yogurt for two hours before I make this recipe. However, I have a recipe for sugar free vanilla ice cream here.
  • Optional- additional sugar alternative as needed. Taste your beverage first and add the alternative in small amounts a bit at a time. Also optional is ice. You can also substitute in ice for the water or for some of the water.

How to make Sugar Free Copycat Chick-fil-A Frosted Lemonade

Use a decent blender for better texture. I use a Vitamix blender for a recipe such as this one.

  • Add to your blender the lemon juice, lemonade mix, and water. Then blend these ingredients long enough to mix until bubbles begin to appear (about 10 seconds).
  • Next, to the blender, add your ice cream or frozen yogurt and blend until you reach your desired consistency.
  • If your lemonade seems to be too thin, simply add a few ice cubes or ice cream and flash blend until you reach your consistency.
  • You can add additional sugar alternative if you feel that your drink is too tart. However, only add this in small amounts a bit at a time, tasting between additions.
  • Make this a bit more fun by adding a bit of vodka to the end and giving it a quick flash blending .
